knowledge defines all we currently know and

The
Story
The
tutors
at Contemporary
College have a wealth of experience in
teaching Hypnotherapy, Counselling &
Psychotherapy. Our main tutors are listed
below. Before you continue to read about
who you will be learning from soon, let's
take you through the story of how CCTS was
born ...
When we first had the idea for
Contemporary College we had already
personally experienced a great range of
training ourselves and had trained many
others in hypnosis and therapy. During
this time we had come across many
therapists in practice. Some great and
some less than ..!
It
all began on one of those days when I was
taking stock of my life (you know the
one’s), reflecting on the past, the
present and the future. I was thinking
about my life so far and in particular my
life since becoming a therapist, where I
had found my meaning, energy and passion.
This
creation was born, one afternoon when we
were sitting in a coffee shop. “What is
it that makes therapy work? What do you
think really makes a good therapist into
an amazing one?” I asked Tom.
Tom
grinned, and I knew that the wisdom of Tom
Barber was to come!
“Milton
Erickson’s your man here. I know I am
the second greatest hypnotherapist of all
time to him and I can live with that for
now, so let me see what comes to mind from
the main man”.
I
rolled my eyes and waited for Erickson’s
pearls of wisdom. How Tom remembers such
quotes never ceases to amaze me, but he
always has one for the right occasion. Not
all from the great Dr. Erickson I hasten to add, some from
his former Rugby days!
“People
know more than they think they know, it is
just a case of helping them find the
techniques and approaches that re-search,
re-find and re-establish old unused and
forgotten innate abilities and
resources… Therapy is often a matter of
tipping the first domino” he replied.
“Yeah,
I get that ... I always look to get to
know them and then use a mixture of
skills that suit their needs. I have also
found that in being my self, that this
happens even easier” I said. “If you
don’t have a combination of skills and
knowledge within, how can you bring the
unique person up from their deep waters to
ride on the waves?”.
“Very
metaphorical”
he smiled “but apt … with such
metaphors have you ever thought of being a
hypnotherapist .. I think you would be
quite good!”.
“Very
funny” I grinned, “Have you ever
thought of creating a training college
that combines both our experiences of life
and our philosophies of being human and of
therapy?” Touché.
We
then had one of those moments when
something inside stirs and you know that
you have found something that is truly for you
(we call them the Aha! moment's) .. We had made a decision and the
landscape of Contemporary College was
prepared for painting.
Today
you will experience the culmination of
many years of researching, refining and
entwining all that we know into what we
believe to be the finest training
available.
The oil's on our painting however are
by no means dry!
So
… a little about us! |

Our Courses
Contemporary
College offers fully professional
courses that are validated by leading
external validating bodies. We are
consistently keeping up with the
ever-changing regulations and requirements
of the various professional bodies, so that
your training is not just meaningful, but is
in line with the standards that are
constantly being introduced into the
profession. Contemporary College’s courses
are designed in line with the National
Occupational Standards set out by the
Government and its delegated bodies.
All prospective students are welcome to
come and see our course training weekends in
action and to speak to the tutors of the courses
prior to enrolment.
Our
Philosophy & Model
We
believe that every human being has the potential
to learn and to achieve. Through exploring ones
sense of purpose and experience of the world
this allows clarity of vision to open up within
and a philosophy of life is gained.
The psychological philosophy of the school
is Humanistic, which we believe promotes just
this sense of purpose and clarity. The main
theoretical approach is Integrative, which
allows a depth and breadth of psychological
understanding so as to allow all to explore and
open up to them selves in a way that is
appropriate for them.
Our
Approach to Training
Contemporary College feels that the most
important aspect of being a versatile and
competent therapist is to be able to adapt, as a
therapist, to the many different issues that
clients present themselves with. With this in
mind we teach Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy
with the integrative approach central to our
focus of learning and includes a basic insight
into the skills of counselling.
Many
courses focus on only one aspect of therapy in
particular. Contemporary College offer training
in not one, but all of the approaches
above. As a qualified therapist you will have a
vast amount of knowledge and skills to be able
to treat a wide range of clients. Each client
will present his or her own unique and differing
problems and issues. Our approach will train you
to deal with all and any of them, and if not,
will give you the awareness to know when
referral is appropriate. |
